WWDC 2006 Recon

Apple’s event is going live on August 7, just nine days from today. Mac users start focusing their attention towards it — what are we looking towards to? Is it new Apple products, or are we interested on something else?

If you’re interested in Apple’s possible new products that may be announced there, here’s the recon gathered from the web’s chatter so far.

:: Mac OS X 10.5, aka Leopard ::
This isn’t big news since Apple has already confirmed that their next operating system will be demoed at the event. One of the confirmed features is the capacity to have multiple OS Macs — as it’s being beta-tested now by many of us with Boot Camp.

:: Mac Pro, aka the Intel PowerMac ::
It’s no secret that the PowerMac, the only computer that is without an Intel chip, may finally be reborn at the expo as the Mac Pro — as a recent copyright filing by Apple has shown. Rumors floating around have mentioned the case will be redesigned with possible second optical drive being added. The biggest mystery so far is… what Intel chip will it use? All points up to either the next-gen Xeon or Core 2 Duo processors — both which are dual core. Apple may keep the quad system arquitecture in the high-end model by applying two CPUs like in the last PowerMac line.

:: New MacBook Pro, aka faster one ::
Intel has already started shipping new processors, code-named Merom, to the market. And it’s no secret that Apple’s already laying an eye over them. The question just is… will they be shown at the expo, or will they be shown at a later date?

:: iPod nano 2G, aka magnesium nano ::
Reports have been spread that Apple’s looking to replace the nano’s highly-scratchable plastic case with one made out of magnesium. Supposedly, it will be similar to the iPod mini’s aluminum casing. Also, the flash memory is to be upgraded possibly to either 6 or 8GB.

:: iPhone, aka Apple’s cell ::
It’s not hard to prove that Motorola’s iTunes-enabled phones have been received with much less entuthiasm than expected — so reports have been flying that Apple has been developing their own iTunes phone. A photographer that’s been hired by Apple before to do promo shots, has mentioned they recently hired him to photograph some kind of a sleek phone. Interesting…

:: What about the rest? ::
Nohing much has been floating around for anything else. One interesting question remains, though… Just like Apple renamed the iBook to MacBook, will they now rename the iMac to just Mac? Or is there a new computer waiting for us in the future? Knowing Apple, much will not be heard before the product is announced.

Just keep in mind that the previous report has been compiled from rumors and rumblings that have been circulating the web. By no means should anyone consider this information as fact until it has come out straight from the horse’s mouth — that’s Apple, folks.

UPDATE 31-July-2006 -
:: iTunes Movie Store, aka Rental Service ::
New reports show that there’s also a possibility of seeing full-feature films in iTunes — albeit using a rental service. But will it be picked up by consumers who are now used to actually owning what they download from iTunes?
