Everyone believed that Apple’s future would be unveiled today at the WWDC keynote today. And those expectations did not fall short, as Apple unveiled new iPhones, new features about the iPhone 3.0 OS, and Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. Here’s what’s new with some Twitter commentary.
New 15″ MacBook Pro. Now also has an enhanced battery like the 17″ model, and an even better display. Also, oddly enough, they’ve replaced the ExpressCard slot for an SD Card slot. Same sleek design, yet it packs up to a 3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo processor and 8 gigs of RAM. Price range: $1699 – $2229… so now the base models are cheaper!
A speed bump for the 17″ MacBook Pro. ExpressCard remains, and nothing different beyond more power.
New MacBook (Pro). Just like the 15″ MacBook Pro, the new MacBook now features an SD Card slot, a better display, and — wait for it — FireWire 800. All this apparently prompted Apple to rename it to MacBook Pro, also. So it’s official: a 13″ MacBook Pro.

Speed bumps for the white MacBook and MacBook Air. Some price reductions, and speed bumps all around!
Not the same cat: Snow Leopard. Apple claims they built the newest Mac OS over Leopard, but has way too many new features that’d make you think otherwise. First up, a Finder completely written in Cocoa! Just like Apple did with its hardware, the OS has speed improvements all around: from the Finder to its apps. Upgrade price for current Leopard users: $29 single license; $49 family license.

Now shinier than before… including its icon: QuickTime. New interface as rumored, but Apple claims the content is the key to the new version. And video sharing!

Over 100 new features: iPhone OS 3.0. As previously mentioned, the iPhone will be more innovative thanks to new features like copy and paste, search, more landscape modes, Spotlight, and MMS. Users can now purchase videos and audiobooks from iTunes within the iPhone. iTunes U too!

AT&T drops the ball. Then there’s the internet tethering for laptops using the iPhone’s USB or Bluetooth connection; AT&T was not mentioned. AT&T also won’t support MMS until later this summer.

iPhone development. To put it simply, the 100+ new APIs — most notably push notifications, peer-to-peer, and connectivity with accessories — will keep developers busy.

Not a big shocker: iPhone 3GS. The S means “speed”, apparently. It may look the same as the iPhone 3G, but it works like a whole new device. Initial impressions are that it is at least two times faster for apps than the previous iPhone. It also has a 7.2Mbps connection, and an auto-focusing, 3-megapixel camera that also captures video. Seems like prices will remain the same (16GB/$199 – 32GB/$299). The iPhone 3GS will be available on June 19th.

Last but not least: $99 iPhone 3G. The current 8GB iPhone 3G will remain in the lineup and now cost $99. It is also available at Apple Stores today. Quite a bargain?
