Trends :: Mac Software Bundles and Events

The Mac community is now used to seeing software specials appear in the web (especially as bundles!), such as MacUpdate’s Promo page, macZOT, 20MacApps, GiveGoodFoodToYourMac, MacSanta, or TheMacPak. But what’s the deal with this? Why does the Mac community give it more focus than their PC counterparts?

Mac software has always been different: innovative, powerful, and even delicious. Yes, the developers are very proud of their work, so it only makes sense for them to take the extra step and distribute it in a different way with better deals for the shopper. Well, Mac users certainly aren’t complaining — in fact, they’re taking some amusement out of their software shopping!

I approached Mark Howson (who is behind TheMacPak and 20MacApps) and asked him: Why do you think that these discounted software bundles have been appealing for the Mac community? He answered:

“Simple. People love to get something for nothing. If they can’t get something for nothing, something for next to nothing is the next best thing. And that’s exactly what Mac software bundles provide. Something for next to nothing. They aid developers too, because it gets their products noticed. In fact, for our new upcoming project, 20MacApps, we really couldn’t hit our targets without bundles. Bundling helps users to discover new products for less money, and get presents for friends at the same time. And that, in essence, is the art of the bundle.”

That was well said. Besides that, one thing’s for sure — if these software events continue to enjoy their success, we’ll keep seeing more of them. Discounted software deals are already making my wallet sigh in relief. Does anyone else enjoy these deals?
