You’ve been craving to take up your iMovies up a notch in production values, but can’t afford the pro tools — or perhaps are not sure you’ll be able to work with them. How about taking an easier step? PulpMotion by Aquafadas is able to improve on your video’s aesthetics and imagination, thanks to the pre-designed themes where you just drag and drop your media. And who knows? Perhaps your project will end up looking so good that people will believe you’re a real pro, now.
Design. PulpMotion works mostly as a one-window application, closely following all of the iApps’ interface and ease of use. The end result is a clean experience that isn’t intimidating — even for novices — that’ll allow for some amazing results when finished working with the media.

Functionality. It’s a very effective media app — you just select an appealing theme, drag some of your own videos and/or photos into it (then perhaps pair it with a song), and customize the show to make it your own. These customization options include — but are not limited to — changing the text, background, timing, and some part of the animation. Once you’re finished with your media masterpiece, there’s a wide-array of exporting options available: QuickTime, iPod, AppleTV, Email, screen-savers, and more. So sharing the final work won’t be limited by distribution means.

Limitations. Since it works on pre-designed themes, perhaps you’ll end up with various works that in the end look alike. But with about 40 themes to choose from (and more downloadable ones), you’ll be busy for a while before exhausting them. And yet, some are so amazing that you’ll find yourself using them again and again. One word of caution, though — the app does all of its work on-the-fly, so having a fast Mac is recommended along with a decent video card and Tiger. Still, here’s a great example of what can be made with PulpMotion — as found on its themes website:
Final thoughts. PulpMotion is a spectacular app. I mean it because it produces amazing results with such little work and time spent — you could convert your photos into one amazing slideshow in a matter of minutes, if you wanted to. Another possible use for the app would be for it to complement iMovies, or the other way around. Suffice it to say, PulpMotion will give you a rich user experience for only $29.95.
