It’s hard for me to believe that today is MacRecon’s second anniversary… time does fly… Anyway, straight to the point — just like last year, there’s going to be a little giveaway. Please read the rules before entering.
To enter the giveaway, simply leave a comment in this post below using your full name and a proper email address (for license creation purposes only — we all hate spam, so none will be involved). In the comment, just mention what did you name your Mac’s hard drive (or if you left its default name), or what did you name your iPhone/iPod in iTunes (or, once again, if you left its default name).
The winners will be chosen by a random drawing using Randomizer.org to pick up the comment numbers that will win something. All entries will close on August 5th. The winners will be posted and notified later that day.
Only one entry per person will be allowed. If it’s suspected otherwise, the duplicates be ignored automatically for the drawing.
This is the full list of this year’s prizes:
-BannerZest Pro
-Delicious Library 2 (two licenses to give away)
-iDive
-iShowU
-Mac Bundle Box (the winner will receive all 15 apps!)
-Picturesque 2
-PulpMotion Advanced
-YummyFTP (three licenses to giveaway)
This means that eleven commenters will win something this year! Good luck!

Macintosh HD is named ‘Oz’ while my iPod Touch is named ‘touchy oz’, and my user home folder in ‘landofoz’. It all stems from my times on the ESPN hockey boards (about twelve years ago now) and being the only Australian, oz just seemed like the most logical nickname. It even carries through to this day on my blog.
Khurt on July 26th, 2008 at 7:22 am says:
Mac HD is named “Macintosh HD” and the iPod is named “Khurt’s iPod Touch”. Yeah. I suck at naming. I wanted to use the name of a cat I one had, “Fuzzy Lizard”, but she choked on her cat litter and I thought that was a bad sign.
Sachit Vithaldas on July 26th, 2008 at 7:50 am says:
Hey, my mac hd is named “tifosi”, for the craze of red. My ipod is named “Sac’s ipod”.
Pietro Iacono on July 26th, 2008 at 8:14 am says:
Hi, my hd has the default name (Macintosh HD), while my iPod is just called “Nano”.
Galley on July 26th, 2008 at 8:17 am says:
My external drives are “GalleyDrive Sr.” and “GalleyDrive Jr.” My iPhone is “GalleyPhone”. I also have a shuffle called “GalleyPod Jr.”
Carolyn Hayes on July 26th, 2008 at 8:47 am says:
My iPod is Carolyn’s Nano because my son has an iPod also. My iPhone is yet unbought and unnamed - probably a thrilling Carolyn’s iPhone.
My HD is named Macintosh HD and my external is named SimpleTech HD.
Now if I had more stuff and networks I guess I’d have to be more creative but I just want to identify things easily when I’m setting up new stuff. LAzy, I guess.
Matt Moriarity on July 26th, 2008 at 8:56 am says:
I used to name all my mac hard drives after strong bad’s different computers (Tandy 400, compy 386, lappy 486). However right now my iPhone and macbook pro both have the default names
Giel Demeulemeester on July 26th, 2008 at 9:08 am says:
i just left the default name of my macbook pro’s hard drive
Carlo Sobrevinas on July 26th, 2008 at 10:01 am says:
I left both my HD with the default name but I tagged my ipods with my name and a description: carlo’s ipod, carlo’s ipod nano, carlo’s ipod video.
I guess I should have been more clever, eh?
Shishir A on July 26th, 2008 at 10:13 am says:
My hard drive is called “datacube” and my ipod - “xpress’. I am yet to buy an iphone. Wonder what I will name it…
Kerim Satirli on July 26th, 2008 at 10:26 am says:
I just switched to a Mac (MBP to be precise) and, as always, it took me quite a long time to find a name. You see, I am one of “those” that put lots of thought into the whole process:
I restrict myself to names that appear in mythologies around the world, yet, the arsenal of names is limited by the type of the device: Smartphones (Valkyrie) and Pocket PC (Banshee) were Irish mythology, iPods (Ratatosk) were Norse mythology and my former laptop was given a name based onIncan mythology .
Since switching to OSX was such a big move for me, I decided to go for a name that would reflect the importance of the device: Nahual. Nahual translates into “something that is my cloth or skin”, which is a fair assessment given the fact that my MBP contains ALL of my digital life and as such provides protection (no data = no money = no cloth and eventually: no skin
).
Antonin Haas on July 26th, 2008 at 11:26 am says:
My harddrive is left as Macintosh HD, and I don’t changed the name for iPod too. Back on PowerBook G3 with Mac OS 9 (and before it), I always partitioned disk to 3 partitions - System, Application and Data disk, but with OS X I don’t think it has sense anymore…
Namhong Kim on July 26th, 2008 at 12:30 pm says:
My MacHD is called “something” and my iPod Touch’s name is “Touch Me”
Terrence Gort on July 26th, 2008 at 1:50 pm says:

Left my HD named “MacBook HD”. Boring, I know, but I did change the icon to a MacBook
Roberto A. Villarreal on July 27th, 2008 at 12:12 am says:
My HD is named “fireb0x HD”, my iphone is name “fireb0x-iPhone 3G”
The naming convention comes from when I used to manage a server farm. The domain was called netfire and each server was a “fireb0x” (as in blazing fast boxes). Each server had fireb0x, a dash, and a number or other designation. To this day I use it for all my devices, this includes fireb0x-ps3, fireb0x-360, fireb0x-wii, fireb0x-psp, fireb0x-macbook, fireb0x-iMac.
Since I got married, I started naming my wife’s devices flutterb0x-XXXX since she likes butterflies (flutterbys).

Kevin Espino on July 27th, 2008 at 8:43 am says:
Since I have linked the number 23 to numerous instances in my life, both my Macintosh HD and my iPod are all named “23″.
Only icons differentiate them from one another. XD

Nanda Firdausi on July 27th, 2008 at 10:30 am says:
I just left it as default name
Techslacker on July 27th, 2008 at 12:05 pm says:
The name of the harddrive? I just left it alone. The name of my system though I change every now and then. Since I use the nick Techslacker and I have a laptop, I use the name TS-Mobile most of the time. It’s funny to see people’s reaction when they check their bluetooth and see that name because they then think that someone nearby is using that cell service.
Dustin Fletcher on July 27th, 2008 at 1:58 pm says:
I left my HD as “Macintosh HD”. I didn’t think about changing the name for it during the install, and I’d probably get tired of another creative name fairly quickly.
erik on July 27th, 2008 at 2:22 pm says:
another one with just a boring default ‘macintosh hd’ here, I’m afraid.
Jóhann Gunnarsson Robin on July 27th, 2008 at 3:43 pm says:
HD sadly has been left with the default “Macintosh HD”.
My iPod on the other hand has earned the name “Egill Skallagrímsson”, which (for those that aren’t familiar with icelandic folk stories) is one of the toughest of the exaggerated icelandic “heroes”, drinking with his father (without his permission) and writing poetry at the age of three, killing his first enemy at the age of seven, and having such a thick skull that an axe couldn’t penetrate it.
I named him (the iPod) Egill for his persistance, but this iPod has taken more bumps than can reasonably be listed, drowned a couple of times, and generally survived in my care/abuse for three years.

Veit Winkler on July 28th, 2008 at 8:56 pm says:
My internal HD, the main one, is called “HD”, the first external is named “Data” and the other one “HD_bak_300GB”… pretty boring, hm?
Well, I used to give my disks funky names but kinda got away from it. Maybe I should start that again:-)
Cheers,

I named my nano “Monolith”, because it reminded me the monolith from 2001 : Space Odyssey. Then, a few months ago, I replaced my nano with a classic, wich I named “Megalith”, for obvious reasons.
As for my internal HD, I named it “Macbook Pro”. My external HD partitions are named “Storage” and “Backup”, respectively.
