MacBook Air: Going for a better tomorrow?

The MacBook Air — you either hate it or love it. But there’s no denying that the world’s thinnest notebook has style. Still, as many could’ve imagined, it’s suffering from the “Apple 1.0″ blues, where there are more than a handful of problems and limitations with the first release of a new Apple product. Everyone remember how troublesome those first MacBook Pros were? I am reminded everyday. Anyway, what can be expected from the next MacBook Air release — hopefully in six months or so?

Overheating problems. It’s been quite heard from the users that, during heavy use, the MacBook Air gets so hot that one of the cores from the tiny Intel Core 2 Duo actually shuts down until everything’s cooler. I won’t believe that the thin design is to blame — Apple can and should find a way to fix this for newer models.

Power. Maybe the MacBook Air is underpowered because of the technological constraints its design imposes… but as time goes on, I’d love to see the next models with at least a 2GHz processor and a 100GB HD as base. That should put it on a better track for some modest computing nowadays. And forget about a better video chip — this one’s not for gaming.

SSDs. Intel is going to provide some neat SSDs (Solid-State Drives). Now where are those much-needed price drops?

Battery. Although it may be too late for Apple to change that now, a swappable battery would be an answered prayer for road warriors. For those who have seen the videos, the battery is extremely easy to swap once you have removed some screws and the lower case of the Air. Maybe Apple should just give us an access door to the battery, and then everybody would be happy. Although this may be categorized under “wishful thinking”, at least some improvement on battery life would do.

FireWire. Wishful thinking, again. One FireWire port. Just for target disk mode. Please, Apple?
