Disctop is an app that has no real useful purpose, as the author has mentioned. But it’s one of those that’s so simple and fun, that you just have to have it — and it’s free! What Disctop does is display a disc that’s approximate to real life size when you insert one into your Mac. But what else? Keep on reading.

Once Disctop displays the disc on a relative area of your desktop as to where the disc is inserted (on the iMacs it looks great thanks to perfect sync), you have the option to add cover art to it from Amazon or other sources. So far, audio CDs and DVDs were compatible — but when the cover for software was requested, the app searched in Amazon’s music database.
If an audio CD is inserted, there’s also the option of controlling its playback on iTunes, thanks to the added control buttons.
There you have it — some of the simple pleasures of Mac life is this disc eye candy.
