It’s official: iPhone launch on June 29

When three iPhone commercials were unveiled tonight, Apple finally let the release date slip: June 29. Better start saving those pennies (6 one-hundred-dollar bills wouldn’t hurt, also) if you want to grab the iPhone. Not just because of the steep price tag of the phone itself, but because the following was spotted at the end of the ads:

Yeah, if they placed that on the ads there must be some truth behind it. But I still hope there’s some way around it — the iPhone’s just too expensive, already. And a year-long contract is perfect, but power users know that two is way too much. Are you still getting an iPhone?

Keep on reading to see all three of the iPhone ads.

What’s so bad about a 2-year plan? It’s not like you’re going to change the provider after 2 years :-) And I presume there will be different plans available to suit different needs.

The thing about two year plans is that basically you’ll be stuck with the same phone for that time, and you’d have to pay full price for a new phone if you want to change it — instead of getting one at a discount. And two years is a lot in the world of tech.

But you’re right. If you’re happy with AT&T, there should be no problem with a two-year plan. After all, we’re already paying more than full price on the iPhone. ;-)

By the way, Mark Siegel from AT&T wireless just confirmed to me that officially there are no waiting lists for the iPhone (despite of seeing them at some stores) and that a two-year plan is required. Thanks, Mark!
