It’s not Apple Tuesday, yet we get new Macs

Heads up! Apple has new iMacs and Mac minis!

The iMacs have been upgraded to the Core 2 Duo processor, as speculated — and a new 24-inch model has been added! The low-end 17-inch model goes for $1000 (without independent graphics), and the high-end 24-inch model goes for $2000. The latter features a processor running at 2.16GHz, and a 128MB NVIDIA 7300. It can be upgraded to 2.33GHz or a 256MB 7600.

The Mac minis just get a processor upgrade — the low-end has a Core Duo at 1.66GHz, and the high-end the same at 1.83GHz. They cost $600 and $800, respectively.

The 24-inch iMac looks very appealing. And the low-end Mac mini is perfect for a media center.

UPDATE Afterthoughts -
Now that there’s a thousand-dollar iMac with almost the same specs as the high-end Mac mini, do we still need it? I mean, the iMac’s got a better processor, a display, keyboard… and mouse! In my book, that difference of $200 is worth it. But the mini’s a mini…
