In line for Leopard

UPDATE: Added transcript from live event, final thoughts and pictures.

3:51pm - Leaving now to the Apple Store.
4:32pm - Just arrived at Apple Store.
4:35pm - Apple Store is already closed till 6pm. Looks like I’m number 15 in line.
4:47pm - Almost everyone in line seems to have an iPhone. Coincidence?
5:13pm - The line has duplicated to more than 30 people.
5:22pm - I can no longer see the end of the line from my place.
5:45pm - Fifteen minutes and counting…
5:46pm - Finally moved the line in front of the store.
5:50pm - A couple of Apple fans are having seizures from the joy of Leopard gracing the store.
5:53pm - Free T-shirts!!!
5:55pm - Five more minutes!
5:59pm - One more minute!
6:05pm - Mission accomplished!

The Leopard launch at the La Cantera Store in San Antonio was a great success. I didn’t notice it until I left the store and headed to the car, but it turns out that hundreds of people joined the line at the very last moment. Those poor souls at the end looked like they wouldn’t get a free T-shirt, but had no time to stick around as I had Leopard to install!

I arrived home with my Leopard Family Pack and T-shirt only to find out that the shirt wouldn’t fit me, and that the Leopard DVD would not be read by my MacBook Pro. I feel devastated. I’m taking both my MacBook Pro and Leopard DVD to the Apple Store tomorrow to see what can be done, since this isn’t the first time my notebook fails to read a disc. Argh… only to think that besides having to wait more time to experience Leopard, it looks like I’ll have to shell out some money to repair the Mac if it’s needed, because the warranty has expired.

I’d like to say a few words to everyone who successfully installed Leopard:
Enjoy it, you lucky souls.

Now here are some quick pics snapped by my iPhone, as everyone else seemed to be doing, too. Click on any thumbnail to see the image.

We had a good turnout at the CompUSA in Greenville, SC; about 70 people were there at 6:00. I didn’t get a free Leopard T-shirt, but they had a $30 mail-in rebate.
