Hands-on :: iTunes-enabled Blu-ray (Hitman)

The first Blu-ray movie disc with Fox’s Digital Copy has been released today. For those who were wondering, it’s exactly the same deal as the Digital Copy DVDs, such as the one we looked at, Blue Harvest. Inside the specially marked Blu-ray case you’ll find two discs — the Blu-ray movie, and a regular DVD with the Digital Copy — plus a small insert with a code for redeeming the iTunes movie file. In this case, however, we are all glad that the Digital Copy is included in a separate DVD and not within the main Blu-ray disc — we all know why that idea wouldn’t have worked on the Mac… or most computers available to this day. But an even better way of distribution would’ve been to just include the code for downloading the movie directly from iTunes instead, and save the DVD’s plastic for something else that’s to be used more than one time. Nevertheless, early Blu-ray adopters will be glad to have this option. And looking forward, this program is only set to expand, since the news were heard that Lionsgate will also start to include the the Digital Copy feature with their future releases.
