It’s not even been a month after MacWorld — where iTunes versions of movies were promised to be packed in Fox DVDs — and did someone notice the latest Fox Blu-ray? More specifically, the Hitman Blu-ray disc that’s scheduled to be released in March 11th? Notice at the top of the official artwork, where it mentions that Fox’s Digital Copy is included. After the initial experience with the Blue Harvest DVD, it should be expected that a second (standard) DVD will be packed in with the Blu-ray feature film in order to get it to iTunes. This time it’s actually good, and not a waste of plastic — mostly because Apple’s neglected Blu-ray for their Macs, of course.
This is great news since there is no ideal Blu-ray ripping solution available yet. Now you can enjoy the high-def film, and then watch it later on-the-go in your iPod’s small screen. Oh, yes… PlaysForSure DRM is also an option for non-iTunes users.

I got really excited about this Digital Copy option at first, but knew it wouldn’t do me much good since all I buy is BDs (and I own a MacBook). Thankfully, someone had the foresight to include the Digital Copy on a standard DVD.

There is no ripping solution that I know of yet. As far as I know the digital copy means it comes with a code that lets you download a copy of the movie for free off of iTunes.

Fosgate:
So far, Fox digital copy movies include a second DVD with the digital download in it, plus the code to access it. But yes, as you say, it’d be best to just have the code and download it directly off iTunes.
By the way, the same feature has been spotted for the Juno Blu-ray.
